Greetings Friends!
May has rushed in so fast. We had a fantastic Love Modesto and we raised a lot of money for Haven Women’s Center by Walking a Mile in Her Shoes. Thanks to all that donated to this and got to enjoy my walking efforts.
May is reason to celebrate. April showers do bring May flowers and it feels like everything is a fresh start! Kids are graduating and embarking on a bold new future. I am so proud of our Abigail as she graduates Phi Beta Kappa with a double major from UC Berkeley (Go Bears!). She has worked so hard for so many years at school, and since I get to brag a bit, her last B was in her sophomore year at MoHigh. We are so proud of you Abbey and you will do great things in this world. We congratulate all of the graduates and wish them a bright new future. This generation is the game changer and we expect a lot of new leadership and teamwork.
I sometimes wonder if I should have focused on being really really good at one thing vs enjoying doing many things. Most of my friends know the former is impossible and learning to do many things makes life interesting. I might have been a better guitarist, but I like being able to play all of the instruments in a band. I really like experiencing a cross section of our culture, that’s why May is so fun as there are so many things do to, places to go and projects to conquer. From Chocolate, to Ride for Mom, bike week, to May the 4th, Mother’s Day (Love you Mom!), graduations to Porchfest, there is truly something for everyone. But best of all, when you are here in Modesto, odds are you will find some friends on a downtown patio and the day ends in friendship, conversation and a music jam or two and maybe even a song on a new public piano in 10th St Plaza.
Did I ever mention that I love Star Wars? I was there at the Briggsmore Theatre in 1977 for the premiere and since then, the film and science fiction world has never been the same since. George Lucas had already made American Graffiti about Modesto and then, he delivers Star Wars and becomes a global household word. Yes friends, Modesto is the home of George Lucas and Star Wars and we will be celebrating on our own special day, May the 4th. (You get this right?) It has been 41 years since the first Star Wars and it may be just one of the most famous things in the world, and has recently consumed Disneyland. Friends, it came from a guy from Modesto. Be proud. #homeofgeorgelucas
Teamwork, creativity and a great volunteer spirit is what makes a great city. I so appreciate the teamwork of the businesses that advertise in ModestoView, making it possible for us to continue our mission to “Serve Civic Pride Daily”. Please visit them and thank them for helping us change the conversation and focusing on the positive solutions and ideas in our area.
Enjoy May and thank you for being ModestoView friends,
