Okay summer continues but my garden tells me fall is approaching. The rust on the squash and zucchini, the tomatoes that sit on the vine without getting any riper, the stone fruit that don’t get any bigger but sit there for a while and drop. Okay I am ready for fall and the fallow period, but in the mean time summer for us humans still is here for one last camping trip, or barbecue. Again pray for rain, and use what we have sparingly.
Blue Monday Party & invitational jam returns to the Barkin’ Dog Grill the second Monday Sept 14th with special guest monster guitarist Barry Finnerty with the house band, the Blue Monday Ultra Lounge. Barry has played, toured Europe with his band, and played with Dave Mathews, Jaco Pastorius, Miles Davis, Brecker Brothers and many others. He will be playing Jazz standards, rock, rhythm and blues, Doors, Stones, and crowd pleasers. The Ultra Lounge band is Johnny Valdes guitar, Tim Allen bass, vocals, Dave Hawks on drums, Eric Benson, Pat Governor on Keys, Andrew Rosenblum on horns and sax, and Jamie Dubberly trombonist and arranger. The jam this month will features Jazz, R & B, Funk, Latin and a little of everything else with special guests sitting in for listening and dancing. Show from 7 to 10:00 PM with food and drink available in all age venue. Call the Dog for reservations: 572-2341. If you play come on down and sit in with the best musicians in the area, it’s gonna be smokin’.
The Gallo Center for the Arts continues with their diverse booking in Sept with: 9/3/15 The Gypsy Kings, Blues in the night 9/3 to 9/5/15, Mavis Staples, Joan Osborne 9/26 and Richard Marx the 30th.
The State Theatre has been bringing some amazing films and live music in. A Stones Tribute coming through Sept 19th. featuring local bands Third Party, Triple DDD, Joe Barretta Band with the Sensations, and featuring Johnny Moroko.
Live music in DEWZ Wine Bar in Sept booked by your truly: Eric Benson continues live music on Friday and Saturday nights 7 to 10:00 PM, incorporating the best local musicians playing in the intimate wine bar environment. What I have booked for all you music lovers in Sept is: Friday 4th Odalays Caro daughter of Carlos Caro playing Latin, classical and Jazz piano, 5th with local singer songwriter Joe Barretta, 11th Modesto’s got talent winner Francesca Bavaro on piano and vocals, 12th with John King and Robin Montgomery Jazz guitar duo, 18th with Sam of Bosco’s Brood pop and standards, 19th Andrew Rosenblum guitar and vocals plays standards, jazz and pop,, 25th Josh Rosenblum back from LA playing solo guitar, vocals Jazz to pop, and 26th Nick Campos guitar and vocalist playing pop. The room is small so best to call for a table if you know you’re coming if you want a seat.
Lowdown on the jam session in the downtown: Barkin’ Dog Thursday night jazz jams with Dave Dow, Queen Bean Sundays open mike night also in an all age environment.
