A special event for the new invigorated Hero’s sports Bar will be Friday June 28th with Derik Rolando & Desert Chant with members of the Santana Band, Dave K. Mathew’s on Keys, and tony Lindsey lead vocalist. The Project is put together by Derik Rolando one of the hardest hitting Timbales, conga and multi percussionists on the scene. The music is high energy Latin Rock, R & B, and groove influences. Bring you dancing shoes because it’s going to be amazing in a small intimate venue. My band Ultra Lounge will play Hero’s Friday June 14th with special guest Ross McGinnis of Caribbean Steel pan and percussion, influences from Calypso, Jazz, R & B, funk and a little of everything else. Other highlights: 6th Christine Mcgrew, Rob Hill, Blues & Brews 12th: Cynthia Huttleston & Whiskey Tones, 19th with Shad Harris Trio.
Also on the Latin front John Griswold is doing a benefit fun-raiser for the Mistlin Gallery on July 27th, which will feature Cuban music, Cuban food, dancing and even Cuban cigars! check out www.havanafocus.org<http://www.havanafocus.org/> which will be up soon. John’s at Sambaarts@live.com.
And my friend Slim Joe Turner reminds me that Modesto Boogie Woogie Rock‘n Roll’n Music & Art Dance Party this year is June 22nd with Rod Piazza & the Mighty Flyers, & Mofo Party Band. John Black says the fest will start later to avoid the heat, and promises to be a good time with lots of local Blues acts slated so far: The 44’s, Tony T & Rockin Cats, Tommy & the Edsels.
More bright moments in store for the month. The State Theatre continues with quality offering, June 7th Cash’d Out, Johnny Cash burning ring of fire tribute, and Lee Rocker Jun 21st. A local showcase June 15th features: Solar powered people, Stop Motion Poetry, & Kid Mud. So come on down and support the State, check out www.thestate.org<http://www.thestate.org/>. On the kick out the Jams side: Hero’s Tuesdays with Ian Stambaugh, (Jazz), Wednesdays rotating Blues Bands, Barkin’ Dog Thursdays with Dave Dow, (Jazz), Queen Bean Sundays hosts jam with acoustic, rock music.
