What’s new with Jazz and the Blues News?

If you luv music you’re gonna love this
Swing into spring and get your seeds sown. Ordered my seeds from Stockton Seed Company and got the ground ready to go, and yes I promise to water only one day a week! Plenty to do in the downtown with music and the arts in store.

Blue Monday Party & Invitational Jam returns to the Barkin’ Dog Grill this March 14th with 7-piece house Band Ultra Lounge hosting. The Blue Monday Band features: lead vocalist, guitar and bass player Dave Sousa, Johnny Valdes guitar, Tim Allen bass, vocals, Dave Hawks on drums, Eric Benson keys, Andrew Rosenblum horns, Jamie Dubberly trombone. The band will play Jazz, R & B, Funk, Latin, Rock, and a little of everything else with special guests sitting in for listening and dancing. Show from 7 to 10:00 PM with food and drink available in an all age venue. Call the Dog for reservations: 572-2341. If you play come on down and sit in with the best musicians in the area, it’s going to be smoking!

The Gallo Center for the Arts for the month of March brings in: ABBA Mania March 4th, MSO American Songbook 11th, and Rat Pack Revue 18th and 19th. Glad the Gallo brought in Charlie Musselwhite and Mississippi All-stars for some down home Blues to a decent house in February.
A few new venues to check out offering some live music: the Tilted Turtle on 9th street offers live country and rock bands weekends and Café Urbano, (formerly of Clayton’s Restaurant location), is bringing in live music on weekend nights.

If you love the Blues Turlock Community Theatre brings in Tommy Castro & the Painkillers, and seasoned Blue’s Man Elvin Bishop March 5th.

And off the beatin’ track in Newman, the West Side Theatre has a nice lineup Saturdays for March. March 5th Boys of Summer, Eagles Tribute, 12th Red Dog Ash & One Button Suit, smoking string bands, Bluegrass, 19th American songstress Houston Jones, and 26th Santana Tribute band Caravanseri. The theatre is intimate with great sound, food and bar available, well worth the cruise to get there.

Come back out for third Thursday Art Walk 5 to 9:00 PM for some great art, and music in the downtown! .Lowdown on the jam session in the downtown: Barkin’ Dog Thursday night jazz jams with Dave Dow, Queen Bean Sundays open mike night also in an all age environment.

Remember please support our local live venue’s for live music and the arts. So take some time out to hear some live music and the arts of our own town as well this month, think globally and act locally.

All the best, peace out!
