Greetings Modesto Friends:
We are in the heat of the season. This is both figuratively and literally. As we race into the summer harvest and food processing season with high temperatures, we are also running hot with so may activities and great things to do. We have raced into July at 100 MPH with chrome pipes a blazing!
We just finished an amazing Graffiti Summer and opened our Modesto Historic Cruise Route “Walk of Fame”. We are so proud here at ModestoView for being the driving force in the creation of our downtown Modesto American Graffiti history tours and markers. It is so rewarding to see both our locals and our tourists, reading about our history and checking out our sidewalk markers celebrating our Legends of the Cruise. Best of all, we had a monster party for the unveiling with stars of American Graffiti Candy Clark and Bo Hopkins. Modesto is celebrating the good things about who and what we are. The lesson now is that we have to do more to tell our story. We need to tell our story about the good things that happen here. We ave to show our visitors and welcome our new businesses. Every single person here in town needs to make it their mission to tell our positive Modesto stories. ModestoView is here to help as each issue should bring you new insights to what is happening here in town.
Folks, we need all support locally owned businesses. This is really a simple math problem. Money that is spent at a locally owned store stays here. Simple huh? The profits stay here, the owners keep their money here and our employees are all part of the local economy. We lost Camera Center and some others are at risk. Local business are our character, our quality, our expertise, our service and our economy.
We need more open businesses downtown, especially on 10th St. This is our promenade. People go where there is activity. If 10th St is alive, our visitors at the Doubletree will enjoy the stroll and people leaving a Gallo Center show will stroll 10th instead of leaving downtown. We saw this happen on June 28 as people left the Gallo Center, saw there was an art festival and walked down the street. Data and scientific proof acquired. All of this has to happen altogether with private business and city support so we actually change our city. Now is the time. We need to build our city creative, interesting businesses that help give us character
As we race though July, we start revving up for the Modesto Grand Prix. Racers and teams from around the world will be here in our city and we need to make sure that all hands are on deck so when they leave, they tell the world what a cool place Modesto is. Each and every one of us need to encourage our visitors to see our Classic Graffiti Murals, eat in our local restaurants, listen to our live bands and show them McHenry Museum, the Mansion, the State and our Historic Cruise Route.
We will change minds around the world, one person at a time. You are reading ModestoView, and you have a ringside seat to the good things happening in our community. You are our eyes and ears. If there is something that we should be covering, please let us know at info@modestoview.com New music, new books by local authors, delicious entrees or appetizers, email us, tweet us or Facebook us and we will spread the word.
Good things are happening here and thanks to our amazing advertisers and our local supporters and sponsors, we are spreading the word to you, your friends and the rest of the world. Thank you.
Stay safe, stay cool, have a Red White and Blue July
