Libraries to Host Free Family Fun at Diá de los Niños/Diá de los Libros

Modesto Library to give away free children’s books on April 7.
Stanislaus County libraries are celebrating Diá de los Niños/Diá de los Libros (Day of the Child/Day of the Book) this spring. Día celebrations will feature crafts, activities, and a special bilingual Story Time. In keeping with this year’s theme, “Wild About Books,” each child will receive a free book while supplies last, courtesy of the Friends of the Library.

The Modesto event, which will be held in the library portico from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. on Saturday, April 7, is the culmination of the library’s year-long effort to connect children and their families to diverse books, languages, and cultures and an opportunity for the Friends of the Modesto Library to demonstrate its commitment to literacy in the community.

“There is nothing better than seeing the look of excitement on a child’s face—or the look of appreciation on the parent’s face—when handed a book to take home and keep,” said Anne Britton, Friends of the Modesto Library board member and event coordinator. “A “forever” book that does not have to be returned to the library—one that can keep moving along with whatever changes the family experiences.”

Local non-profit organizations, including Health Plan of San Joaquin, Center for Human Services, LearningQuest, and others will also be on hand at the Modesto event, with information and giveaways. Admission is free.

All 13 branches of the Stanislaus County Library will host Diá events in April and May. Visit www.stanislauslibrary.org/tk_kids_dia.shtm for details.
