Light Up the Night with Holiday Cheer

Light Up the Night With Holiday Cheer
By Middagh Goodwin

I hope everyone had a wonderful Thanksgiving. If you went shopping for gifts on Friday or Saturday, I hope you shopped locally and shopped small. It is more important than ever to support our locally owned businesses, including restaurants, bars, and cafes(especially those supporting local music).

It wouldn’t be December in Modesto without Rockin’ Holidays in the 10th Street Plaza. Come out and enjoy the twinkling lights, Santa, the Elves, the Snow and Pixel Light Tree, and Music Thurs-Sat from December 7th until the 21st. The Tree Lighting is on Saturday the 7th after the Disco-themed Celebration of Lights Parade. The tree will be lit, and the party will keep going, with Selecta Dave Bracer spinning the disco hits. On the 12th, don’t miss Imaginary Friends, which has jazzy renditions of popular songs and holiday favorites. On the 12th, we will have a Cajun Christmas with the BluesBox Bayou Band. Enjoy the sounds of New Orleans, along with some Holiday classics. It is back to the Eighties with Neon Radio on the 14th. All the hits of my teenage years mixed in with some holiday tunes(maybe even Holiday by Madonna.) Santa’s Little Horn Band is a group of music instructors playing Christmas and Holiday tunes. Melynda Rodriguez will be playing Holiday classics starting at 6 pm. On the 20th and at 7 pm, David Dow and Friends will play a mix of blues, rock, jazz, and more for your enjoyment. Feliz Navidad, we have a crowd favorite wherever they perform; the David Perez Band will close out the season on the 21st with a mix of Latin and holiday hits.

For more things to do in and near Modesto, check out the NYE Events list and, of course, our packed calendar in the back of the magazine.

Please support our local bands. This holiday season, pick up some CDs, T-shirts, stickers, buttons, or patches and give them away as gifts. Share the gift of music and support your favorite bands simultaneously.

Happy Holidays, and I look forward to a brighter New Year.
