MAMA View
By Middagh Goodwin
October has always been one of my favorite months and over the last three years being nominated and winning the MAMA for Promoter I have enjoyed it even more. This year even though I am not in the running for Promoter it is not going to be any different. I have been working behind the scene to help make the 15th Annual Modesto Area Music Awards being held at the State Theatre October 14th 6pm will be the best year ever. Two new categories have been added this year Punk and Reggae, the venue categories have been expanded and vote numbers have been at their highest ever. We have some great bands scheduled to perform this year including Renegade Conspiracy(Rock), Call Box(Pop Rock), Brutal Innocence(Metal), MSeaG(Hip Hop), Nathan Ignition(Singer Songwriter), City Psychology(Alt Rock), Ryan Russell(Americana), Triple D/Fleetwood Mac Tribute(you won’t want to miss this) and more. If this all wasn’t fun enough we have some extra surprises in store for everyone. Voting continues until 11:59 on Sunday October 12th so if you haven’t yet take a moment to Vote if you have encourage your friends and families to do so too. Once again Congratulations and Good Luck to all those who are nominated. Last year the Brewhouse at Hero’s won the MAMA for Best Venue and if you look at the schedule of events for October you will all know why. Oct.18th it is St Paddy’s Day in October with The Tossers(IL) one of the best Irish Pub Rock bands in the world, Continental(MA) and more. If you are feeling the need to Rock check out Nic Padilla’s Event featuring The Alpha Complex, Hit&Run, Nothing But Losers and more at the Other Place and Spinnakers on October 3rd 7pm $12, 9 Bands, 2 Bars, 1 Night. This might be the biggest thing to hit Yosemite Street in years. On Oct.18th at the Prospect Theatre check out the Northern California Women’s Music Festival celebrating sisterhood in the arts community. Over 18 performer and artist from all over Nor Cal including several MAMAnees and past winners. Plans are in the work for something a little different, November 13th-22nd several of Modesto’s Promoters will co promote an Unconventional Venue Crawl with shows at The Brewhouse at Hero’s, Spinnakers and The Other Place, Cafe Deva and more. Each night a different Venue will be showcased by a different promoter featuring Punk, Metal, Rockabilly, Indie and more. We hope to encourage music fans to check out different Venues and hear something you might not be used to. Celebrating the venues that allow us to have such a vibrant music scene, the local bands who help keep it going and the fans who keep it growing. When the tide rises we all rise with it. There are always lots of great things happening in and around Modesto so take a look at the back pages check out the Calendar and make plans to see a show, hear some music, check out some comedians or look at some art.
