MAMAView: Rockin Holidays

MAMAView: Rockin’ Holiday and Seasonal Cheer
By Middagh Goodwin

I hope everyone had a wonderful Thanksgiving. If you went shopping for gifts on Black Friday or Small Business Saturday, I hope you supported local businesses. It is crucial to support our locally owned establishments, including restaurants, bars, and cafes, especially those that promote local music.

Rockin’ Holiday takes place from 6-9 pm on Thursdays to Saturdays in the 10th Street Plaza. You can enjoy snow falling every 15 minutes, take free pictures with Santa and his Elves, and marvel at the fabulous pixel light tree illuminating the Downtown landscape. Make sure to arrive early and secure a spot on the patio at Fuzio or the Goat Bar. While you’re downtown, don’t forget to visit Rodin Farms for some fantastic holiday gifts.

Rockin’ Holiday kicks off on Saturday the 2nd, right after the Parade of Lights in the 10th Street Plaza. Funkhaus (2023 Blue Collar MAMA winner) will play a mix of hits and holiday favorites. On Thursday the 7th, Sweet Mama Rachel and the Home Made Jam Band (2022 Blue Collar MAMA winner) will treat you to some folky soulful tunes. Melynda Rodrigues will perform a set of Christmas tunes from 6-7 pm on Friday the 8th, followed by Blue Monday Band playing Jazz, Blues, and Latin music to get you moving. On the 9th, Overdyrve will bring the rock and also perform some holiday songs. We are thrilled to have Imaginary Friends playing instrumental hits with a sprinkle of holiday cheer for the first time on the 14th. David Dow and Friends will be in the Plaza on the 15th, playing Jazz, Blues, Latin, and more. On Saturday the 16th, come out early to shop at Las Posadas (Mexican Christmas Market) and enjoy the music of Patty Castillo (2014 Unplugged MAMA winner) from 6-7 pm, followed by Wet Bandidoes (2023 Latin MAMA winner). Central Valley Jazz will perform from 6-7 pm on Thursday the 21st, followed by a Holiday sing-along with Koala and the Golden Boy. Hit Replay is back, performing hits from the eighties and adding in some holiday songs for good tidings. The season will conclude with the David Cutler Band, delivering a mix of Blues, Rock Reggae, and of course, some holiday classics to entertain the crowd.

On a side note, I am excited to announce that MAMA Radio is now being broadcast on two additional stations: OTH Radio in the UK and Pirate Flag Radio in Virginia, in addition to KCBP 95.5 FM. If you are an artist in the 209 area, send your music to mamarecords209@gmail.com for consideration for airplay.
