The Modesto Area Music Awards at The State Theatre was so much fun. With so much talent under one roof and a plethora of amazing performances it is always a night to remember and the best party on a Tuesday Night in the 209.
It was an honor to see the torch passed in two categories that are near and dear to my heart. The venue mama going to the GypsyShack, they do so much not just for musicians in the foothills but for many of our brothers and sisters in Modesto and the surrounding areas. For all the other venues, keep on doing what you do, we are so grateful for each and every one of you. The Promoter award has passed hands, this time to Ron & Doug’s Excellent Promotions, who in the last year stepped it up with some Amazing Tribute shows at the State. They may not have put on as many shows as some of the others promoters, but what is the old adage? “Go Big or Go Home”. Ron & Doug went big and went home with a MAMA. (Welcome to the Captain’s table, fellas.)
I presented a dashboard mama to Moon Trent, the true Susan Lucci of the MAMA’s and in turn received one myself which was quite an unexpected surprise. Victoria Boyington and Modesto Sound received the other two dashboard MAMAs presented. Another stand-out and a first in the 16 years of the awards, 8 bands won their second MAMA.
All the performers did an amazing job from Willie Hines playing Unplugged to The Creepoids thrashing out on stage. Though I am sure if you saw the show you will agree the highlight of the night had to be the Mike Torres Band. (They also won in the Latin Category and set the bar for years to come!) What an amazing band! They had the crowd on their feet and dancing. If you have not seen Mike Torres live you need to make plans to do so. In fact, do yourself a favor and check out all the bands in the Latin Category as they are all worth your time and I am sure you will thank us for the introduction. For the most part, everyone was very supportive and happy of the outcome, win or lose, and that is really what the Modesto Area Music Awards are all about. Remember, “Rise Up don’t Tear Down”, when the water rises, we will all rise with it. Thanks again for a wonderful year of music, looking forward to many more to come.
