MAMAView: Two Decades and Counting
By Middagh Goodwin

I think that it is reasonable to assume that neither Murphy or Ricci had any idea back in the year 2000 that the Modesto Area Music Awards would be going strong after 20 years. Starting out with only seven categories and being held at Club Maxx and now having over 20 categories with over 200 MAMAnees. Over the years the event has been held at Gallo Center, Fat Cat and the DoubleTree with the State Theatre hosting the event for most of the last two decades. Returning to the Historic State Theatre once again this year on Tuesday, October 15.

Since 2000, the MAMAs have been a showcase for the best local talent in all kinds of music from metal, to acoustic, jazz to blues and hip hop to reggae.  Amazing performances over the years have come from Good Luck Thrift Store, Flying Blind,  UVR, Megan Slankard, DAM, Moonshine Bandits, Puffin Billies and so many others.  More incredible performances and surprises are planned to happen as we plan the biggest award show yet celebrating 2 decades of Modesto Area Music.

Voting will go live later this month and will feature over 20 categories, you the fans are the academy, your votes determine who will be the recipient of the coveted custom laser cut  Car Hop Trophy, provided each year by Beeler Industries.
All the nominees regularly perform in and around Modesto, so we encourage you all to check out the bands, the venues, the comedians and DJs to help make an educated decision on who you think should win.

Music in the Plaza is one of the events that the Modesto Area Music Association curates, every band that is performing in August is a past winner or nominee. We also book the local bands at the Stanislaus County Fair, Patio-Fest and the Sampler. Performers send us your contact info so that you are not just on our radar for the Awards Show but also opportunities to perform. Email name, website, email address and genre to mamarecords209@gmail.com.

Looking forward to another awesome year celebrating the plethora of talent the Valley has to offer.

Make sure you tune in to watch the awards show on October 15th at 6:30 pm at www.modestoview.com
