MAMAView – VOTE FOR MAMA!

MAMA View By Chris Murphy

VOTE FOR MAMA! In 2000, over 300 people jammed into Club Max at the Doubletree to celebrate the very first Modesto Area Music Association Awards, The MAMAs. Now 14 years later, we are ready for the 2013 MAMA Awards.

Modesto has so much amazing musical talent that Chris Ricci and I wanted to tell the world all about it and create a way to showcase our incredible music community and that’s why we created the MAMAs back in 2000.

Our musical community is the best. They help present events, put on giant festivals like X fest, set up PA systems, help each other other, play in many bands and make this a place like very few other cities. We have Urban, Pop, Reggae, Indie, Acoustic, Metal, Punk, Cover Bands (Blue Collar), Jazz, Blues, Rockabilly, American and so much more. Modesto has events both large and small and a great network of promoters, restaurants and cafes that host music and what would a music scene be without comedians.

On October 23, live from the fabulous historic State Theatre, the results of the MAMA Awards will be announced and broadcast live on ModestoView. In between all of these awards, there will be one of a kind live performances and a very special Lifetime Presentation to the legendary KC “Don Juan” Maddox of the Maddox Brothers and Rose to honor and recognize Modesto’s place in the history of the birth of Rock and Roll. You will be amazed. This will truly be a special year and our local music community is so very excited and our MC of the MAMAs will be Mr. Alan Sanchez of Good Day Sacramento.

How does this work? You are the voter an voting has begun. The music loving fans get to choose who wins the MAMA Awards. Voting will begin on September 7th. Voting will take place on line at www.modestoareamusic.com This is the event of the year for the Modesto community and it is celebrated by all of the radio stations and all local media. Truly a community event of dedication, donation and teamwork.

In the meantime, we want you to go see local live music. We want you to buy local music and buy local band merchandise. Every sticker, T-shirt and CD you buy helps keep our music scene alive. Go see local bands and support the bars and restaurants that feature live music. Live music makes living special. We need you to tell the City of Modesto and those that are in charge of regulating live music, that “YOU WANT MORE LIVE MUSIC!” We need music and nightlife friendly policies that make it easy and attractive for the people of Modesto as well as our business and tourist visitors to enjoy our live local music. It all has to work together.
