May Magic!

The month of May is magical. After last month’s mix of rainy and cold days, May promises to bring sunny days and the loveliest of flowers. The outdoors is welcoming you to step out again. Ms. M is enjoying the change in the season on a weekend as she browses the shelves of the newly opened Bookish, looking for something to read. There are lots of new & old places to see this month. Here are a few ways to save and enjoy the month.
May 4th is Star Wars Day, and while it has no official commencement year formally, it has become synonymous with Star Wars. Modesto happens to be one of those places where May 4th is meant to be celebrated! Head downtown in your best Star Wars costume for an evening in the plaza, where you can participate in Star Wars-themed activities, enjoy music & more from 5 pm to 9 pm. Located in 10th Street plaza. The Great Valley Museum hosts Discover Saturdays every third Saturday of the month. May 18th is the day to participate in a free activity from 11 am-12 pm. The activities are free with admission to the museum. The museum offers beautiful and enriching information. Take a stroll through exhibits and learn about the valley ecosystem. Music is a must-see experience in Modesto. Modesto Area Porchfest is back for another season! This growing local area event has become a fan favorite because it is free and hosts many of the area’s best local music porch parties throughout the La Loma, College, and Downtown Modesto areas. The family-friendly event takes place from Noon to 5 pm on May 19th, and all ages are welcome. Support the local music scene and get to know your neighbors in Modesto. Summer is coming and for all readers, that means one thing: Summer Reading!. On May 25th, from 12 pm to 2 pm the Modesto Library kicks off their annual summer reading challenge with a party for ages 0-17. The event will have crafts, activities, and information for avid readers to sign up. You can sign up for a library card if you don’t have one for free.
