MemorialView – Flying the colors in 2022

By Chris Murphy

It is so very important that we remember all of those who served defending our freedom. What is happening in Ukraine now reminds us how important freedom and independence is and how fragile democracy can be without those that serve with honor. We celebrate honor those who serve and have served with very special events this year.

Lakewood Cemetery – May 30, 1 pm
This will be a very special presentation organized by Modesto’s SFC Steve Trapp with special appearances and speeches by Maj. Gen. Miles Davis, Col. John Rogers and the 191st Army Band. The 2022 theme is “This Memorial Day, We Tell Their Story”.

Special thanks to the Modesto Sea Cadets who will place flags on Veteran headstones and the Enochs High School Drum Line, and Michael & Suzanne Akard. Please bring a lawn chair so you can enjoy this event that honors those who served.

Acacia Park – A ceremony will begin at 11 am on Monday May 30 with a short band concert from the Turlock Music Cadets Alumni and taps with a full flag ceremony and military honors. Flags will line the roadways.

Memorial Day Classic 5K – May 28
You can run in this patriotic event that benefits the Delta Vet Center. Veterans will prepare a pancake breakfast for all runners and volunteers with a short ceremony after the run. To register to run, sign up to help and to get more info www.facebook.com/modestomemorialclassic/

Santa Nella Cemetery – American Red Cross volunteers do a wreath laying

Take time this Memorial Day weekend to remember our vets. As we learn of other events, we will post them at www.modestoview.com
