We don’t often feature Merced happenings, but this one is really cool as showcased here by North Modesto Kiwanian Steve Perry. Hope you enjoy. – Chris
Looking for a great short day trip with your kids? Merced’s Kiddieland just might be the ticket. Kiwanis Club of Greater Merced’s Kiddieland was started locally by founding Kiwanis members in 1957 with the intention of providing a safe and friendly environment for the community’s children to enjoy an amusement park at an affordable price. Kiddieland is in the City of Merced’s Applegate Park. The City graciously granted the Club land usage in 1957 for the purpose of building and maintaining Kiddieland.
The show stopper in the park, and the most beloved, is the train ride. The train is currently out of service but is scheduled to return to the station on time for the season. There is some reconstruction and upgrading of the train itself to improve safety and be more accessible to people with disabilities.
Today, Kiddieland has 6 rides and a snack shack. The flagship of Kiddieland is our iconic Kiddieland Express Train that provides rides around the heart of Applegate Park. Other rides include the Go Gator Roller Coaster, Carousel, Helicopter ride, Rocket Ship ride, and Car ride. Kiwanis Kiddieland is open Saturdays and Sundays 10 am – 2 pm from roughly the 1st weekend in March through October each year.
