By Mike Vanek 2012 The year in Modesto Metal 2012 was an up and down year for local metal. With an all-out abandonment of the all ages venue it has been rough for local metal bands. Our scene has been stricken with the need for all ages heavy metal venues in Modesto. We salute The Workshop in Ceres for continuing to keep the all ages flag flying for over 10 years strong and it continues to be the last remaining strictly all ages venues in our area.

2012 was a year of awakening for some bands. Hang The Kode had a banner year as did California Medication who played a masterful set opening for nationals TRAPT at The Fat Cat, Nothing But Losers continued their dominance of the scene and local favorites Warpath Assassins embarked on their 1st US tour with fellow local touring heavyweights Better Left Unsaid!

Now, I’d like to shine some light on an out of town promotion company doing great things for our scene. J-Max productions out of Chico CA has been bringing some of the biggest bands in the world to Modesto like Trapt, Seether, POD, Soulfly, 5 Finger Death Punch just to name a few!! We salute Ben & Justin for supporting and strengthening our music scene and this February their bringing the legendary Marilyn Manson to Modesto Center Plaza!!

2012 was a tough year for metal but we hope that 2013 is a new era for Modesto Metal!! As always Keep one foot in the gutter and one fist in the gold.
