Metal May at the Fat Cat! By Mike Vanek

Hello Modesto metal maniacs! May is my favorite month on the calendar. First of all Happy Mothers day and what a month we have for you, our Mo town metal faithful. It all starts May 2nd with Taproot, Better Left Unsaid, Clockwork Hero and others will invade the Fat Cat! Then on May 9th Mushroomhead and Nothing But Losers will also invade the Fat Cat!! May 10th is the Zombie Death Stench NATIONAL CD RELEASE party followed the very next day with Eroszion, Blastlung and more. Once again these shows are at Fat Cat but there is great metal all over the area whether it be Fat Cat, Spinnakers or Other Place, Yosemite Lanes or Theater 417 there is METAL ALL OVER MODESTO!! This months spotlight bands or bands to look out for are Symbolik outta Stockton, Blastlung from Manteca, the super awesome Eroszion who are making Modesto home as of late traveling from the Stockton/Manteca area weekly for shows, meetings and functions.

One last thing I need to mention is something I take part in every week and it has become a Monday institution in the downtown Modesto entertainment community. The Fat Cat hosts a weekly meeting every Monday where people from all walks of life meet and discuss what they do in the scene and shows are booked at pretty much every venue in town by most of the well known promoters in town and of course if you want to play or book these shows or shows at Fat Cat, this is the place to be and meet new and awesome people! It happens every Monday between 5:00-5:30pm and they usually last about an hour or two. The most important part is the answer to my most frequently asked question: How do we get on National shows at Fat Cat? The answer my friends is to go to these meetings and book or play good shows at Fat Cat and it will happen. It may not happen over night, but if you become a Monday regular eventually it will happen. Bands like Nothing But Losers, Eroszion, Warpath Assassins, & Zombie Death Stench were all featured with national shows recently and local musicians turned promoters Ronny Myer and Doug Robinett of Ron & Doug’s Excellent promotions were given the Jimmy Vaughn show to promote so if definitely pays off. This is a great way to get to know a lot of people who work in the Modesto entertainment community!!

Well that’s all for me this Month as always KEEP ONE FOOT IN THE GUTTER AND ONE FIST IN THE GOLD!!! Mike Vanek facebook.com/mike.vanek
