MetalView: Sworn to the Black
by Eve Oberlander
Congratulations to 2016’s MAMA winner, Sworn to the Black, for Best Metal.
I had the chance to attend a Sworn band practice and sit down with the guys and ask some questions after their MAMA win!
MV: How are you feeling right now, considering you just played at the State Theater in front of hundreds of people and then taking home the award for Best Metal?
Kirk: Accomplished and validated. Pelon: Feels good, something we co-created.
Rich: Being only a year in with this band, I’d say great!
Jared: “Delusions of Existence” album is done and next is to move forward.
MV: Where do you draw inspiration from?
Kirk: Life experiences.
Jared: all heavy metal, from hardcore to punk.
MV: When writing songs, how does that work?
SttB: Jared’s ideas, Pelon puts a spin on it, lyrics last and then final arrangement.
MV: Favorite show?
SttB: Our CD release party for “Delusions of Existence” back in November 2015. We sold out our merch.
MV: Give me two words describing your band.
SttB: Originality and Brutality.
MV: What’s your favorite song to play for your audience?
SttB: Blacken My Thoughts and Makeshift Martyr.
MV: New material? Three new songs. Look for an EP mid-2017.
