MJC offers Cal-OSHA Training

MJC offers Cal-OSHA training courses to assist area industry (Modesto, CA) – Cal-OSHA, the state’s Division of Occupational Safety and Health, protects workers from health and safety hazards on the job in almost every workplace in California through its research and standards, enforcement and consultation programs.

It can be a daunting task for supervisors and industry managers to stay current on the latest Cal-OSHA regulations. However, Modesto Junior College’s Workforce Development and Community Education have teamed-up to offer two new Cal-OSHA training courses in May to assist area employers in understanding and applying OSHA standards. The Cal-OSHA Training for Manufacturing Supervisors and Managers is a 32-hour OSHA certified course provided through Friday-Saturday sessions on May 9-10, and May 16-17, 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. The registration cost is $479.

A Hazardous Waste Operations (HAZWOPER) Refresher Course is an eight-hour OSHA certified training held 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. on Friday, May 23. The registration fee is $189.

Both courses will be held in the Regional Fire Training Center, located at 220 Fire Science Lane in Modesto. In the 32-hour Cal-OSHA Training, general industry managers and supervisors will gain an understanding of Cal-OSHA standards and regulations in order to effectively develop and implement an on-going safety and health program for their company. The class will teach how to locate and apply Cal-OSHA safety and health standards, policies, and procedures relevant to the workplace, and identify common violations of Cal-OSHA standards and select appropriate corrective measures. Participants will learn how to use Cal-OSHA regulations to recognize and reduce hazards in the workplace; assess the effectiveness of the safety and health program at their place of employment; develop and evaluate internal training programs required by Cal-OSHA regulations, and utilize safety and health resources to promote a continuous process improvement in their safety and health program. The HAZWOPER training is designed for hazardous waste operations and emergency response workers who must satisfy their annual eight-hour refresher training course requirement. Topics include detecting hazardous materials, toxicology, respirators, site safety planning, decontamination, hazardous communication, hazardous waste and levels of protection (PPE).
