MJC presents Pictures of the Past ceramic sculpture exhibition
Modesto Junior College Art Gallery presents Pictures of the Past, an exhibition of the ceramic work of Rebekah Bogard, an associate professor of ceramics at University of Nevada, Reno. The display is open to the public from January 20 through February 12. The MJC Art Gallery is located on East Campus, 435 College Avenue and is open Monday through Wednesday, 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. and Thursday from 10 a.m. to 7 p.m. Admission is free.
A free public reception with the artist will be held on Thursday, January 29, 5:30 p.m. to 7:30 p.m. at the Gallery. Refreshments will be served.
Bogard has received numerous awards including being named an Emerging Artist by both the National Council on Education for the Ceramic Arts and Ceramics Monthly Magazine. She has been awarded a residency at the Bemis Center for Contemporary Arts. In addition, Bogard is a two-time recipient of the Nevada Fine Arts Council Fellowship, as well as receiving the Best of Show in several national art competitions.
Her work has shown in several solo and group exhibitions nationwide and has been reviewed in publications such as Art in America, LA Times, Sculpture Magazine, Artweek, Ceramics Monthly Magazine and Clay Times Magazine.
Bogard employs fictional animals in her artwork to explore the narrative of her life and personal history, providing both anonymity and security to the secrets she reveals. She utilizes animals because they are beautiful and mysterious creatures, vulnerable to relations with humans.
Bogard holds a Master of Fine Arts in Ceramics from University of Nevada, Las Vegas, and a Bachelor of Fine Arts from University of Wyoming. Additional information on the artist and her work is available online at http://www.rebekahbogard.com/.
