MJC presents Guitar Recital by Carlos Eugenio Santi

MJC Guit-Artist Series presents a Guitar Recital by Carlos Eugenio Santi
The Modesto Junior College Guit-Artist Serieswill present a Guitar Recital by Carlos Eugenio Santi, Argentinean virtuoso, on Wednesday, March 23 at 7:30 p.m. in the Music Recital Hall on East Campus, 435 College Avenue, Modesto.

Santi will perform works by Albéniz and Giuliani, as well as his own transcription of the Brilliant Suite 1004 by J. S. Bach.
Santi is well known in Latin America and Europe for his brilliant transcriptions and virtuosic interpretations on the guitar. He has performed in countries around the world including Brazil, Chile, Uruguay, Argentina, Switzerland, Slovenia, France, Italy and Spain, and has received significant national and international awards. Santi will visit MJC on his USA debut.

At present he teaches guitar and chamber music at the Universidad de Córdoba and La Rioja in Argentina.
“His outlook on his music is that of a musician who happens to play the guitar,” said David Chapman, professor of guitar at MJC. “This is perhaps the reason for his very unique and beautiful performances.”
Chapman established a friendship with Santi while both artists were performing in Mexico. The exchange comes to fruition with the concert on March 23.

Tickets for the Guitar Recital are $12 general admission and $10 for students and seniors (62 and better). Tickets are available at the MJC Auditorium Box Office, open Tuesday through Friday, from 12 noon to 5 p.m. or by calling 575-6776 during Box Office hours, and are available online at www.mjc.tix.com. Tickets will also be available at the door beginning 90 minutes prior to the performance in the Music Recital Hall.

This event is made possible by the generous donations of OrthoMed, the Law Offices of Rodney Augustine, the Advanced Retina Institute and anonymous donors. Proceeds from Guit-Artist Series are used to support MJC guitar students through scholarships and guitar supplies.
