MJC presents new Positive People Speaker Series
The Modesto Junior College Office of Campus Life and Student Learning presents the new Positive People Speaker Series, featuring presentations by local community members who have overcome challenges and obstacles to achieve their goals.
The community is invited to come hear these stories of inspiration and motivation. The free presentations are held on Thursdays at 6 p.m. in the Mary Stuart Rogers Student Learning Center on West Campus, 2201 Blue Gum Avenue, Modesto. Campus parking is available for $2.
The new series kicks off on December 1 with Joanna Murillo-Beaver, a licensed vocational nurse, as the first presenter. Murillo-Beaver was an all American girl – a popular cheerleader with many friends and an outstanding student. However, her life took a dramatic turn after a night of celebrating left her in the hospital and landed her in jail. Murillo-Beaver will tell her inspiring story of how she overcame this set-back to pursue and achieve her life dreams.
The Positive People Speakers Series will continue in spring 2017 with the following presenters:
February 2 – John Ervin II, founder of Project Uplift
February 16 – Demitrius Snaer, MJC professor and Men’s Cross Country coach
March 16 – Tamara Mena, motivational speaker and spokesperson
April 6 – The Honorable Ruben Villalobos, Stanislaus County Superior Court judge
