MJC presents screening of documentary Dark Girls

(Modesto, CA) – The Modesto Junior College Civic Engagement Project (CEP) invites the community to a screening of the documentary film Dark Girls on Thursday, February 19, at 7 p.m. in Forum 110 on East Campus, 435 College Avenue. The free event is part of the CEP Spring Film and Lecture Series. Campus parking is available for $2 in student parking lots.
Dark Girls examines the prejudice women with darker shades of skin color face around the world, and the film argues that forces such as history, the media and the cosmetic industry have contributed to the self-esteem issues and the internalized racism that accompany the phenomenon of “colorism.”
Following the film will be a discussion with guest panelists, including Cheryl Williams-Jackson, Ph.D., mental health clinician and MJC professor of child development and human services.
