MJC Theater Department stages “The Good Woman of Setzuan”

(Modesto, CA) — The Modesto Junior College Theater Department presents “The Good Woman of Setzuan” by Bertolt Brecht and directed by MJC Theater Professor Lynette Borrelli-Glidewell. Performances are October 22, 23, 24, 29, 30 and 31 at 7:30 p.m., and November 1 at 2 p.m. in the Main Auditorium of the Performing and Media Arts Center on East Campus, located at 435 College Avenue in Modesto.
The play follows a young woman, Shen Te, as she struggles to lead a life that is “good” according to the terms of the morality taught by the gods who bestowed her with money for her goodness. Her fellow citizens of Setzuan pay no regard and abuse her goodness. Her neighbors and friends prove so selfish in their quest to feed their own needs, that Shen Te is forced to invent an alter ego to protect herself, a male cousin named Shui Ta, who becomes a cold and stern protector of Shen Te’s interests.
The play stars Marilyn Diaz as Shen Te, her boyfriend Yang Sung is played by Joel Morrison and Wong the water seller is played by Sal Vasquez.
Tickets are $10 general admission, $8 for students and senior citizens, and October 22 is Preview Night with all tickets $5. Tickets may be purchased at the Auditorium Box Office, Tuesday through Friday, 12 noon to 5 p.m. and 90 minutes prior to each performance, or by calling 575-6776 during these hours.
