Modesto Junior College volleyball opens up its season tomorrow, August 27, with three-team round robin play at the MJC Gym on East Campus. MJC, Yuba College and College of the Siskiyous will play at 1:00, 3:00 and 5:00 p.m. to start the new season.
This will be followed by a five-team volleyball tournament on Friday, August 29, featuring Chabot, Siskiyous, Porterville, West Valley and host MJC. Friday’s matches begin at 10:00 a.m. and will last through the late afternoon.
Both season opening tournaments are free to the public and provide a great opportunity to get a preview of the MJC volleyball team.
Returning to the Lady Pirates team is Sierrah Miller from Pitman High in Turlock. Miller was one of MJC’s top hitters last year and was an all-conference selection. Also back is Shania Williams, outside hitter from Enochs High in Modesto.
Tiger Shelton, second year head coach, is expecting great things from the 2014 MJC team. He took a five-win team to 21 wins and a postseason berth in his first season.
