Martin Luther King, Jr. died 56 years ago, but his vision still uplifts and transforms countless people throughout the world. His vision and dream are celebrated the world over as well as right here in Modesto.

“We shall overcome because the arc of the moral universe is long, but it bends toward justice.”

The MLK Luncheon with guest speaker Reverend Gregory G Savage will take place this year at the King Kennedy Center 601 S Martin Luther King Drive at 11:30 am on Friday, January 12th. Tickets are $30 for more information call 209-568-3096.

The second annual Martin Luther King Jr. Unity March and Community Service Event is Monday, January 15th at 1 pm. The pre-assembly lunch begins at 11:00 am at the King Kennedy Center 601 S  Martin Luther King Drive at the MLK sign. The march will begin at 1:30 pm and will end at the Modesto Centre Plaza 1001 K Street, for the I Have A Dream presentation with guest speakers, food, and prizes. “The DREAM Lives On” event is a time to reflect on the legacy of Dr. Martin Luther King Jr., and also challenge ourselves to how we move that dream forward. We’ve come a long way, but amazing work is happening right now to further realize that dream. Michael Baldwin will share his insights on how the dream lives on, and encourage us to march forward, as we’re all in this together!
Doors at 5; event at 6 p.m. This is a FREE community event.

Mark your calendar the Martin Luther King, Jr. Commemoration again invites you to our 30th Annual Martin Luther King Commemoration on Saturday, February 10, 2024. Civil Rights attorney and activist Maya Wiley(the president and CEO of The Leadership Conference on Civil and Human Rights and The Leadership Conference Education Fund) will be our speaker at Modesto Junior College’s Performing Arts & Media Center, 435 College Ave., Modesto at 7:00 p.m. There will be music, spoken word, and the awarding of the Martin Luther King, Jr. Legacy Award. Retired Modesto High School teacher and founder of the annual Day of Respect, Sharon Froba will be this year’s recipient.
