MODESTO PERFORMING ARTS
2015 SEASON
Modesto Performing Arts announces its 2015 of Broadway musical and plays:
THE MUSIC MAN by Meredith Willson – June 20, 21, 26, 27, 28 – at 7:30 PM, Sunday performances at 2PM
A nostalgic look to Smalltown USA of a bygone era, Merdith Willson’s The Music Man follows the fast talking traveling salesman Harold Hill as he cons the people of River City into buying instruments and uniforms for a boys’ band he vows to organize – this despite the fact he doesn’t know a trombone from a treble cleff. His plans to skip town with the cash are foiled when he falls for Marian the librarian. Musical highlights include the toe tapping Seventy-Six Trombones, as well as Gary, Indiana; The Wells Fargo Wagon, and Goodnight My Someone. America’s favorite musical!
GUYS AND DOLLS by Frank Loesser – August 8, 9, 14, 15, 16 – at 7:30PM, Sunday performances at 2PM.
Based on a story and characters by Damon Runyon, Guys and Dolls has been an audience favorite since it was first produced on Broadway and a film with Frank Sinatra. With gangsters with names such as Nicely-Nicely, Harry the Horse, Angie the Ox, And Big Jule everyone is in for a fun-filled evening of musical theater as Sky Masterson tries to woo the Salvation Army’s prim and uptight Sarah Brown.
Both musicals are accompanied by a full, live Broadway size orchestra.
A CHRISTMAS CAROL – by Charles Dickens – November 27, 28, 29
The miserly Ebeneezer Scrooge, (Bah, Humbug!) redeems himself with the help of three ghostly visitors in this elaborately staged, full length version. As Tiny Tim says, “God Bless Us, Everyone.”
All performances are at the Gallo Center for the Arts. Tickets on sale now.
