The 28th Annual Martin Luther King, Jr. Commemoration returns this year as a YouTube virtual event on Saturday, February 12, 2022, at 7:00 p.m.
For the past 28 years, the Martin Luther King, Jr. Commemoration has had a distinguished history in our community and has presented at Modesto Junior College an array of amazing Civil Rights era leaders as well as current activists who keep alive Dr. King’s message of social and economic justice.
This year, because of the COVID-19 pandemic, a very special virtual program will be presented. In the spirit of Dr. King, some exciting young people will offer their thoughts on important issues like voting rights and democracy.
The Martin Luther King, Jr. Legacy Award, honoring individuals who have a long history of community service, will be given posthumously to teacher, activist and community volunteer, Shelly Scribner, and will be accepted by her daughter, Juniper Scribner. A second award will be given to the Rev. Dean Dodd of the Cleansing Hope Shower Shuttle and the Church in the Park for his service to Modesto’s homeless.
