Art View By Jim Christiansen

Autumn arrives with a new Third Thursday Art Walk map, a Harvest Festival on the 1010 Tenth Plaza, and the Merced Art Hop October 20. Edgar Degas, “The Private Impressionist” will open at Carnegie Arts Center in October. The show features Degas drawings, printmaking and photos related to his personal and experimental work, not usually seen in exhibitions featuring his more famous paintings.

David Schroeder is the host artist/photographer and organizer of the new Photographers Show at Central California Art Association/Mistlin Gallery. Photographers for this show were invited to demonstrate the Impact of the Digital Revolution on Photography. Many of the participants will host workshops at the gallery during the course of the show and the show itself should be an interesting display showing us the cutting edge of the photographic arts forms.

Artist Corey West has been featured at the Chartreuse Muse, something I missed in last month’s column. Corey was one of the artists whose work was purchased in last year’s Family Justice Center annual art show and open house. Chartreuse Muse will have new show – Family Justice Center and Artist’s cooperation show opening October 17, where regional artists will show works inspired by works of children in the center’schildren’s art programs. Much of the center’s work involves services to victims of domestic violence and other needs. This show will run through November 3.

The CSU Stanislaus and Modesto Art Museum Building Imagination Gallery and Theatre held its Grand Opening over the September Art Walk. Greg and Mark Paul Runnels have applied to be filmmakers in residence, and will be holding their Modesto Film Festival there. Check out the new gallery at 1009 J Street, next door to Mistlin Gallery.

The Stanislaus Artists Open Studio steering committee isback at work on the 2013 event, April 6 and 7.
