October Greetings

Greetings ModestoFans: I love Halloween season! I wish there were the 12 days of Halloween and a couple of days of national holidays. Everyone has fun and the season is amazing with the fall weather, the big harvest moons, the cool breezes, occasional rains and tasty things like butternut squash ravioli and soup. Have you been digging the 3rd Thursday Art walks as much as I have? Are you impressed with the fabulous talent of our artists, sculptors and photographers not to mention our musicians and our street singers! So many of my favorite things line up in October as we celebrate our music talent at the 13th Annual Modesto Area Music Awards, the MAMAs at The State, our local food is celebrated at our 2nd Annual Harvest Festival in 10th St Place and many of our local restaurants are featuring fall menus with local produce and then the art world comes out at night with the many Halloween parties, fundraisers, haunted houses and Dio de los Muertos events where the Voodoo of New Orleans and Latin America mixes with our Modesto American Graffiti culture. Yes this is an exciting time of the year and there is no shortage of things to do. See our calendar on pages 24-27 and online at www.modestoview.com. Fall high school sports are a big part of our community and October will see the end of the Water polo Season and Football rankings will soon be decided in the conference playoffs. It is the most Americana feeling at these games, cheering on our local students and begin a part of our team rallying cry. Help your kids with homework as much as possible, help in class if you get a chance and double proofread the college essay so our local Modesto kids can go conquer the globe. In this election season, it doesn’t matter if you are red, blue or purple, Republican, Democrat, Green or Independent, remember to get involved and make sure to make your voice heard and make sure our elected officials put our local priorities and jobs first. Most of all, remember that ModestoView is for you. Tell us what you want, what you want us to cover, send us tips, send your music, send your events so we can help spre3ad the word, and get more of our fellow citizens involved. We all make a difference and we all can help. Thanks for reading ModestoView and for making a positive difference a priority. All the best to you, Chris Murphy Founder and Publisher, ModestoView chrism@modestoview.com
