Here They Go Again By Efren Martinez
Grammy award wining videos with treadmills, presidential tweets, being dropped out of a plane while in a car for a Superbowl commercial, and concert going fans chiming along to an amazing performance with hand-bells are all just another awesome workday for the band OK GO.
Just recently, I hooked up with the band’s bass guitarist and vocalist Tim Norwind by phone. Tim’s enthusiasm was amazing and it didn’t take long for me to figure out how and why their music is so fun. On June 17th, they launched their new video “The Writing’s On The Wall” with Rolling Stone magazine. Within a two days the video went viral, topping out with over half a million hits in the blink of an eye.
The video is filled with some mind blowing visual illusions and brain twisting effects. During the video it appears that Tim sports the illusion of having half a beard on his face, but in realty it’s no illusion. He actually shaved half his beard off for that part of the video. Talk about taking one for the team. He, like the other members of the band, is dedicated to their music and busting out fresh ideas and videos for the fans.
Shortly after OK GO launched the video, they released 4 sample songs from their new album “Hungry Ghost,” scheduled to come out on October 14th with 12 new tracks. I’ve had the pleasure to sample these tunes and liked it so much that I’ve already pre-ordered the new album.
On July 15th you can catch them for a live performance in Sacramento at The Assembly Music Hall and on the 16th of July in San Francisco at the Independent.
