Pandora Presents Sharon Van Etten By Efren Martinez
On the 29th of July I enjoyed an eclectic Sharon Van Etten show presented by Pandora.
It was staged at The Chapel in San Francisco, a mortuary converted concerted hall. The venue was perfect for such a show. This was an invitation only performance and the crowd was as deep as Sharon Van Etten’s music. Sharon played to a full Chapel and I was shoulder to shoulder with Sharon’s most admiring fans. She played for about an hour and a half and ended the show with an encore performance.
During the show, Sharon got very in tune with the crowd as if she knew each one of them personally. Several times during the show she spoke to a few of her fans directly and she caught more of my attention when she referred to her music as dark. I personally don’t feel dark when I listen to her music but more so in touch with the real life. Regardless, Sharon has a soothing voice to calm your soul and it helps me reach deep into the reality of my own existence.
As an entertainer myself, she reminds me that it’s OK if not always turned on and happy if I don’t feel like it, especially when life throws a curve your way. It’s nice to know that I’m not alone according to her sold out shows. Sharon’s been taking the music scene by storm, just recently she performed on The David Letterman Show and is currently traveling the world to perform for those who are just as deep as she is.
