Parent Resource Center Celebrates 30 Years

Parent Resource Center celebrates 30 years
of service to Stanislaus’s children and families
Two events continue the celebration

The Parent Resource Center (PRC) will continue celebrating 30 years of service in Stanislaus County with two upcoming events.  An open house and brief program will be held on April 27 from 5 to 7 p.m. Tours, activities, and appetizers will be available at the PRC’s 811 5th Street office in Modesto during the open house.

A second event on April 28 recognizes Child Remembrance Day, part of Child Abuse Prevention Month.  Staff and guests will gather outside at 10 am for a moment of silence in memory of children lost to child abuse.  Light refreshments will be served at the PRC’s 5th Street office and its Airport Neighborhood office at 202-A South Santa Cruz Ave. in Modesto. Crafts and prizes will be available for young children while supplies last.

The goal of the events is to raise needed funds for the agency as well as renew awareness of its services. To RSVP for the events, donate, or for more details, call Susan or Denise at (209) 549-8193 or email events@prcfamilies.org

The agency was established in 1992 as a non-profit organization with a mission to build strong, healthy families. Previously, the PRC’s services were part of the county public health department but were discontinued due to budget cuts. The PRC was among the earliest agencies in Stanislaus County to establish itself as a family resource center (FRC) providing child abuse prevention services such as parenting education classes, volunteer mentors and home visitation, nutrition education, emergency diapers and formula services, and a donation room.  Also, in the early days, the PRC hosted one of the first fathers’ group.

Services continue to be offered at no cost at the PRC’s 5th Street office and its office in Modesto’s Airport Neighborhood.  The Parent Resource Center is funded through grants and partnerships with First 5 Stanislaus, Stanislaus County’s Community Services Agency, and the Behavioral Health and Recovery Services, and through donations and fundraisers.  Visit www.prcfamilies.org for more information.
