PerformingView – April Performances are Busting Out!

PerformingView
By Chris Murphy

And we thought March was busy. There are so many performing opportunities this month and literally, most every day, the ModestoView calendar has too many choices. So I recommend that you open up your calendar and these shows on your schedule. This is just a sampling of the great performances from a variety of places.

The Gallo Center is on a tear. This is an action-packed month featuring great shows like:

Greatest Opera?
Opera Modesto is presenting a masterpiece! Puccini’s Tosca is one of the all-time best operas. If you ever wanted to get inspired or check out the opera for the first time, this is one of the best. Political intrigue during the Napoleon era sets the stage for the music and there is something for everyone. Opera Modesto is pleased to present an up-and-coming star, Tiffanie Trujillo, winner of the Kristina Townsend award as Tosca. Take note, only ONE showing only of this work. There’s a pre-show talk, Opera Insights, at 1 pm to get the full scoop.

Lerner & Loewe’s My Fair Lady has been called the most perfect musical of all time. From the Rain in Spain, to Street Where You Live, or Danced All Night, Director Bartlett Sher’s glowing production is “thrilling, glorious and better than it ever was”, said the New York Times. Don’t miss the tale of Eliza Doolittle and Henry Higgins in this great story.

Don’t miss out on a great month with shows like Mean Girls, April 2 &3, Jim Messina and Pablo Cruise – April 6, The House at Pooh Corner for the family -April 20 & 21. Latin Grammy winners 123 Andres finish off the month on the 28th.

The Modesto Symphony features Mendelsshon’s Violin Concerto in E minor with Tal Murray on Violin. This will be an energetic show with Mendelssohn’s last concerto. Shows on April 12, & 13.
