PerformingView – Autumn Theatre Season

PerformingView
By Kaye Osborn and Chris Murphy

Autumn is approaching and so are new theatrical seasons! It is my hope that you attended a live performance during the summer: a concert, a play, a dance, a poetry slam or a talent show. Keep attending productions and spread the word through social media about the show. Help them grow their audience. I believe in you dear reader!

I am thrilled about attending this year’s MSO Picnic at the Pops-Queen! Love the location, the community support and, most of all, the opportunity to dance! I invite you to dance with me! Then to top off the evening-fireworks! Yahoo!

Don’t miss Norman Foote on Tuesday, Sept. 18 at 6:30 PM. Two local choirs will be joining him: The Great Valley Academy Choir and the Lakewood/Sonoma Chorus! How exciting and a wonderful opportunity for those young singers!

William Shakespeare’s, Romeo and Juliet performed by an all-female cast.
At its most straight forward, Romeo & Juliet is a timeless tale of two young lovers torn apart by the feud between their families, which speaks to the terrible costs of such division within our communities. Director, Carolina Stevens has put together an ensemble of ten women from the valley to comprise the cast of Romeo and Juliet. The all-female cast provides the perfect backdrop to explore the gender themes in this classic love story. Shakespeare’s decision for the pair to defy the gender standards of the time brings their love together in an undeniable way, yet their later attempts to re-conform to the societal expectations eventually leads to their ill-fated tragedy. PG rated.
