November is the month of Thanksgiving and we want to enjoy that as long as we cans, but you see the holiday shows are creeping in to get your season enjoyment and celebration going. There is a lot going on so you better sit right down right now with your calendar. It will be New Year’s Eve before you know it and you might miss something. Make sure you check the ModestoView calendar as we try to keep it up to date as we learn about changes and new events.

The Gallo Center
The Gallo Center season is packed and the holiday shows are getting going in late November with Big Bad Voodoo Daddy extravaganza followed closely by the Modesto Symphony Holiday Pops on Dec 6th and 7th with concert soloist Nikki Renée, directed by Ryan Murray.

Right out of the gate, It is the Modesto Symphony performance of the Four-Seasons Mix Tape featuring works of Vivaldi, Richter, Ysaÿe, and Piazzolla representing the seasons on Nov 1 & 2.

Other highlights include the 50th Anniversary tour of KC and the Sunshine Band. So “Get Down Tonight” with Harry Wayne “KC” Casey as the band celebrates their many hits. November 9 7:30 pm

The multiple Tony and Grammy winning Hadestown will bring the full production where a song can change our fate, and after all, it’s a love story. November 12 & 13, 7 pm.

Celebrate the musical legacy of Laurel Canyon of the late 60s /early 70s with Dustbowl, A Laurel Canyon Retrospective featuring the songs of CSNY, The Doors, Byrds, Eagles, Rondstadt, Jackson Brown, Joni Mitchell, Three Dog Night and more. Sunday evening November 10 at 5 pm.

Here are some great family events.
Leonardo, A Wonderful Show about a Terrible Monster. This show brings the Mo Willems story to life as Leonardo meets the most scaredy-cat kid in the world. This is a treat as the Manual Cinema live actors create the show on stage with hundreds of puppets, signs and book pages while the screen shows a film presentation simultaneously. Nov 19th 6:30 pm

Family Sing-a-long fun! Disney’s beautiful movie Encanto comes to the stage and big screen with live musical performance as the film plays and the audience is encouraged to sing-a-long. Nov 23. 7 pm

The Christmas season gets going with huge shows by Big Bad VooDoo Daddy on November 26 as they play the rockin’ & swingin’ hits like Run Run Rudolph, Merry Christmas Baby, Blue Christmas and more. November 30, 5th generation mariachi José Hernández brings the Mari-Achi Christmas to the Gallo Stage.

Downey High Theatre
Get your Crabby Patties! Disney alumni Chris McPherson is keeping the exciting arts performances going with the fun presentation of Sponge Bob Square Pants musical with the all-singing, all-dancing, dynamic stage show! When the citizens of Bikini Bottom discover that a volcano will soon erupt and destroy their humble home, SpongeBob and his friends must come together to save the fate of their undersea world. State Theatre
The State Theatre is on a roll with live event, fall harvest events and of course great films. First off, the comedy performance by comedian Bill Burr sold out in a few minutes. Beware of scalper tix. The month starts with Jimmy Buffet’s Margaritaville, Nov 2. We Own the Laughs with Steven Briggs – Nov 8, is followed by the 100th Anniversary of Camp Jack Hazard with Good Luck Thrifts Store Outfit – Nov 9.

Nov 16 – Crush Congregation Beat Battle, Nov 17 – Pavlo in Concert. On Nov 24 – “Concert for Patty with Love” will feature dozens of local musicians and bands from our area performing a fundraiser for Patty Castillo Davis, a beloved musician battling cancer.

Jose Feliciano performs on December 8 and you can get a special VIP Modesto Celebration of Lights Parade viewing at the Intemission for December 7. Coming on December, our favorite Ugly Sweater showing of Christmas Vacation in the intermission, limited tickets.

December marks the 90th Anniversary as the State Theatre opened on Christmas Day, 1934.

Prospect Theatre
The Shark Is Broken, by Ian Shaw and Joseph Nixon and directed by James Kusy is about the first summer blockbuster movie that’s being filmed—but no one working on the film would know it. “The script never lets interest lag over the play’s ninety, intermission-less minutes, the tension, humor, depth, silliness and horror coming like waves lapping the boat.”

West Side Theatre Newman
If you head over the Newman this month, there are three great tribute shows going on. On the 9th you can enjoy “When Doves Cry” Prince tribute. On the 16, Used Cars, a tribute to The Cars then on the 22, Cougar Adams, tribute to John Cougar Mellencamp and Bryan Adams. Shows start at 8, doors at 7. Tix are $20 – 30. www.westsidetheatre.org

Congregation Beth Shalom
Did you know that anyone can go to concerts at Beth Shalom. The concert series is L’Chaim and this month features an amazing “soul orchestra” as Stockton Soul uses live music to educate about the beautiful elements and movements in Black American Music and their inextricable links to American History. This show is on Saturday November 16 at 7 pm. Get tix here and check out the whole season
