March has an amazing agenda for top rate live theatre performances from the professional Broadway, to the indie-production along with school drama presentations. There is really something for everyone from spoken word, musicals and opera. These are just a sampling if what is happening in our community. Please check out the ModestoView calendar of the websites of these companies below for more shows and to purchase tickets.
Downey High School Theatre presents Celebration Celebrating and will have its Spring show performance March 10 & 11. The show is a comedy one-act play with musical numbers for the first act and then the second act will be a tribute to Downey’s Theatre Heritage. This will be an exciting event as many alumni will come and be a part of the celebration. We are familiar with stars like Jeremy Renner and Tim Olyphant, but there are many others that went on to not only act, but produce, cast and build the world of theatre like Robert Ulrich.
One of Downey’s illustrious alumni is Paul Lambert, Class of 69. Paul has gone on from those wonderful days to have a career in producing musical theater on Broadway and around the world. Paul remembers, “I will always be grateful for the inspiration and connection to the arts at Downey and the entire Modesto HS musical community — as each year we Modesto High, Davis, and downey music departments cane together and did a city wide project”. One year it was with Carmen Dragon (www.kennedy-center.org/artists/d/do-dz/carmen-dragon2/) and another year with Jester Harrison (genius.com/artists/Jester-hairston).
Do not miss this special celebration of Downey High School and their many successes, now under the direction of Chris McPhearson, who himself went on to act and work with Disney and has returned to Modesto to share us skills and vision.
