PoetryView – National Poetry Month

Sam Pierstoff

April is National Poetry Month, and we’re celebrating the best way we know how—under the stars, surrounded by community, creativity, and good vibes. Join the Modesto Artists Movement on Wednesday night April 9 at Queen Bean Coffee & Social House from 7:30–9:30pm for an evening of poetry, music, and a little bit of magic. (Tickets available at modestoartistsmovement.org<modestoartistsmovement.org>.)

We’ve got a haiku battle (yes, with kazoos so you can buzz for your favorite poems), open mic performances, and live music by Dave Rogers on bongos and Marina John Hanna on piano or cello. We’re even giving away $100 prizes—one for the haiku champ and one for the best open mic poem—plus a homemade trophy you’ll definitely want to brag about.

But it’s more than just a fun night—it’s part of something bigger. We believe Modesto is the next great city of art, and poetry is at the heart of that movement. These gatherings are how we elevate the culture of our city—by celebrating language, creativity, and connection. So come be part of this artistic renaissance. Whether you’re a poet or just love the power of words, your presence helps build something beautiful. Let’s create the kind of city we all want to live in—one poem at a time.
