Release your Inner Geek at Classic COmiC Con
Classic Comic Con’s pre-convention activities kick off at the McHenry Event Center with an acting workshop taught by Golden Globe nominee Richard Hatch on Thursday, September 29th, at the Clarion Modesto. In this workshop open to the general public, attendees will have a chance to explore their passion for the art, craft and business of acting. Hatch teaches actors, writers, directors and filmmakers how to be more proactive in the business, enabling them to create their own unique pathway to success in today’s entertainment industry. Richard shares 40+ years of insight on how to get the most out of one’s talent and abilities, and how to make a powerful impression on agents, casting directors, producers and directors. This workshop is suitable for industry professionals and those who wish to learn about breaking through self-imposed barriers, how to communicate effectively and to learn confidence building strategies.
Convention attendees can mingle with celebrity guests the evening of Friday, September 30th at the event’s VIP mixer held at the McHenry Event Center beginning at 6pm. This mixer will be a special opportunity to spend time with favorite celebrity guests and is sure to be a memorable part of the convention experience.
The convention officially opens at 9am on Saturday, October 1st and runs through 5pm on Sunday, October 2nd, offering entertainment for all ages. Weekend attractions include a number of educational panels and workshops ranging from costume and prop design, film making and voice acting to writing a graphic novel and discussing the future of fan films. Panel formats will include question and answer sessions as well as screenings of trailers. A favorite part of any pop culture convention, celebrity guests will be signing autographs as well as posing for professional photo ops with fans throughout the weekend. Additional event programming includes a Masquerade party on Saturday night with dancing and live music performances, a film festival, fan experiences, costume contest with prizes, kids activities, gaming zone with tournaments, a Pokémon-Go hunt and special exhibits like “Avenue of the Strongest,” a 911 photography exhibit by renowned photographer Mark Roddenberry as well as a display of anime themed art on cars and other vehicles presented by The Heart of Otaku Culture. Classic Comic Con is also hosting a number of vendors in their marketplace and artist alley where attendees can shop for art, handmade artisan crafts, rare comics and memorabilia, handmade jewelry and accessories, toys, collectibles and a variety of other specialty items.
Appearing at the convention are Star Trek franchise veterans Manu Intiraymi and Tracee Lee Cocco as well as the original Mighty Morphin Alien Rangers, Rajia Baroudi and Alan Palmer. Anime voice actor favorite Paul St. Peter will also be attending and teaching a couple of voice acting panels.
