On Saturday, April 25 from 7-10 pm three bands will play a benefit show to raise money for Kristy Housewright-Ibarra’s Relay for Life Team, KristyStrong. Queen Bean Cafe is donating their outdoor space as the venue. The three bands have decided to volunteer their time. Fallen Short and Monkey Knife Fight are both from Modesto, and Zen Arcadia is from Sacramento. The $10.00 per person door fee will go directly to Relay for Life and is tax deductible.
Kristy was re-diagnosed with breast cancer in August 2013. A 44 year old mother of two high-school-aged kids, Kristy has overcome bone, lung and brain metastasis over this past year. While she is not cured, Kristy continues to receive the best treatment at UCSF, and her family and friends remain optimistic and positive. Together, she and her colleagues are raising funds for Relay for Life.
This particular fundraiser idea was born out of a comment her husband made to her good friend, Emily Murdock. He said, “Kristy really wants to hear Seth’s band play.” Seth is married to Emily and plays bass in the Sacramento band, Zen Arcadia (www.zenarcadia.com).
Kristy recently shared she has been made an honorary team member of the BVG High School – Lady Lions Soccer Pink Power night! Last year, Kristy was featured on the front page of the Modesto Bee releasing the dove at Relay for Life. She is active in the Modesto cancer survivor community.
