Rockin’ Holidays are here!
By Chris Murphy
Who used to love coming downtown back in the 50’s and 60’s? The lights, the stores, and the excitement have become distant memories. Modesto is getting its groove back and we are embracing our inner American Graffiti and our Rockabilly sensibilities. We want to bring this back and let the old times blend with the new times and create a new downtown experience that can grow for decades to come.
ModestoView created the Historic Cruise Route and the Walk of Fame and now we present to you “Rockin’ Holidays”. We are bringing the good times back, and we take YOU back to the retro rockin’ times in Downtown Modesto when the cars were cool, the lights were bright, and the sounds of the holidays rang in the air.
There will be new lights, garland, retro decorations, music, local vendors and tasty treats and many memories to create. And best of all, it will snow and twinkle, and you will be able to meet Rockin Santa and his Rockin’ Elves.
Opening night will be December 6th in 10th St Place immediately following the Modesto Rockin’ Holiday Parade at 8:00 pm. There are holiday events all day in downtown Modesto on the 6th, beginning with Breakfast with Santa, the Dickens’ Christmas Faire and Farmers Market at the McHenry Mansion and the exciting and ever popular Rockin’ Holiday Parade of Lights in downtown.
Rockin’ Holiday will be live in 10th St Place, Downtown Modesto on December 6, 11, 12, 13, 18, 19, 20th 5:30 to 9:30 pm with snow on the :00 and the :30. The opening night party is December 6 7:00 to 10:30 after the Rockin’ Holiday Modesto Parade
There will be great graffiti-era Rockabilly music with Rockin’ Rick and the Rhythm Wranglers and more! Local vendors will have roasted Chestnuts, special holiday food and drink specials, holiday movies and the entire 10th St Plaza will be alive with lights and fun. This is the place to be!
Rockin’ Holiday will be featuring a special coats, shoes & socks drive for foster families of Stanislaus County. There are many pick-up locations downtown.
Rockin’ Holidays is created and presented by: Sierra Pacific Warehouse Group, Collins Electrical Co, ModestoView, JCD Atmospheric and Laser Voodoo. Thanks to the City of Modesto, Modesto Downtown Improvement District, Brenden Theaters, Modesto Convention and Visitor Bureau for supporting and embracing our craziness.
