Salmon Spawn
Fall Excursions
Did you know that salmon spawn the first two weeks of November?
What is salmon spawning? It’s when salmon run up the river to their spawning grounds (where they deposit their eggs.) The salmon, which have migrated from the ocean, swim to the upper reaches of rivers where they spawn on gravel beds. After spawning, all Pacific salmon and most Atlantic salmon die, and the salmon life cycle starts over again. Basically the rivers are packed with bright, pink, red salmons and it’s a beautiful sight, so pack up the kids and get going!

One of the best places to watch are from Roberts River Ferry Bridge or at the Knights Ferry— only 30 minutes from Modesto on Highway 132 or Highway 120/108!
