SongwriterView: Hopin’ For A Safe Reopen
By Patty Castillo Davis
19 is a fool’s errand. Not wearing a mask is a fool’s behavior demonstrated by this country’s previous administration which put us in this predicament of mistrust, misinformation and remaining in the Red Tier indicating that we have a consistent substantial spread of the virus in our county.
We have been seduced into thinking that California will be reopening 100%, with no masks required for those fully vaccinated on the honor system by June 15th. In the words of Jeff Goldblum’s character, Ian Malcolm in Jurassic Park they “were so preoccupied with whether or not you COULD, they didn’t stop to think if they should?
If the last year has taught us anything it’s that relying on people in this county to follow safety guidelines in the best interest of others’ health-especially the most vulnerable is a deplorable reality. There is no unsubstantiated judgement behind this, the infection rate, business closures and death toll lend the firm facts.
At the risk of sounding like a baby, ”Can you PLEASE wear a mask and follow the recommended guidelines? I’d like to get a paycheck?!”
The longer the consorting and cavorting and self-serving behavior continue- We Will Be Closed due to surges or worse, our friends and family will continue to die.
Obstinate behavior is nothing to boast, it’s not patriotic nor is it fostering this community.
Not participating in slowing the spread is contemptible. We all need to be all in.
Until a safe return to live indoor music is possible the wonderful trend created by those She Bosses behind PorchFest and CouchFest has breathed life into neighborhood community concerts. In the Wycliffe Estates Neighborhood in Modesto, the Gathering of the Vibes will host a concert at 3318 Wycliffe Drive with special guests Tasha Wilson and Lisette Sims. Downbeat is 6 pm. Free all ages, bring your chair and tailgate gear. You never know who you will meet, this is where I heard the news that the folks at lo-fi cocktail lounge have been busy making preparations for a grand reopening in the near future. We can’t wait for that day.
On Sunday, June 6, Turlock Hydroponics at 2370 N Walnut will have live music and vendors starting at 10 am.
