This is a special day here in Modesto USA! This year is the 40th Anniversary of the release of the original Star Wars.   May 25, 1977, was the day that changed modern film forever.   From the opening theme and the rolling script, the world had a new lexicon of interstellar characters, starships and even speed measurements.   In as little as a few parsecs, this film propelled Modesto native George Lucas into Hyperspace of film fame.

Last year, the City of Modesto proclaimed May the 4th as Star Wars Day! Here is Chris Murphy holding the proclamation in his Jedi cloak.

Modesto’s Star Wars community will be celebrating at 10th St Plaza on May the 4th.  We have invited the 501st, the Wolves of Mandalore and the Rebel Legion to join us at this event and the LodgePole Pickers will go full Jedi for their music in the plaza.  You won’t want to miss the light saber battles brought to you by the Strafe Plains Temple Saber Guild and the light show by Laser Voodoo. Everyone is encouraged to join the Central Valley Costumers and the NorCal Cosies in cosplaying as their favorite Star Wars characters.

There will be special Star Wars food and drink specials at Fuzio, Ralston’s Goat, T-Cups, and Loard’s Ice Cream. Also a special screening of the classic Mel Brooks Star Wars spoof, Spaceballs at the Brenden Theater.  Make sure you like the May the 4th Facebook page to stay up to speed.
