There are many ways to help those that need it the most during the holidays.
We like the Salvation Army because over 85% of all funds received go directly to those in need and all are served without discrimination. The best way to help those in need is NOT to give to people in the streets, but to give to organizations that do the most good in the right places. The Salvation Army serves this way and you can be assured that your dollars actually go to food and shelter.
This is a very important issue that we can help solve. You can also help support Salvation Army in other ways. You can be a bell ringer for Salvation Army by calling 209-522-3209. You can do this as an individual, a family, or with a group. You can also give personal items that are needed in the shelters. Donations can be taken to 320 9th St or 625 I St. Items needed are: toiletries, bedding, underwear & socks.

Comfort Kits
Hundreds of children in our area enter foster care every year with just the clothes on their back or a few belongings in a garbage bag. In collaboration with Child Protective Services, Love Modesto has developed Comfort Kits (quality bags with many useful items) for children who have just been uprooted from their family. In order to meet the need, we need 1,000 Comfort Kits. The average retail costs for each kit is $50-70, but we can purchase items in bulk at around $40/kit.
Here’s how you can help:
1) Donate Comfort Kits. If you would like to donate, Love Modesto needs receive all financial donations by November 10. Or you can shop for Comfort Kits on your own. 2) On December 1 (8:30-11:30am), can you volunteer at the Christmas Comfort Kit Drive. Your help would be greatly appreciated.

If you have ever known what it is like to truly be without food, or to have missed a Thanksgiving dinner, you know how special this annual Thanksgiving meal is for so many people. Local entrepreneur and successful businessperson Dan Costa remembers this growing up and this experience formed his work ethic that still drives him today. Dan has rallied his food service partners, his own team and community friends and volunteers to serve a full Thanksgiving for any that need it. Last year they served over 2000 people in need and nearly 35,000 have been served over 30 years. Please help Dan and Denise Costa and friends on Thanksgiving Day to really make a difference in someone’s life. Additional food prepared benefits the Salvation Army of Modesto.
