The 50 Plus Club Meets – Oct 26

50 Plus Club of Stanislaus County Annual Dinner

The 50 Plus Club of Stanislaus County announces their annual dinner on Saturday, October 26 at the SOS Club, 819 Sunset Ave in Modesto. The event is open to anyone born in Stanislaus or has lived in Stanislaus County for fifty years or more. The social will begin at 5 p.m. and dinner will be served at 6:30 p.m. The cost is $20 and arrangements for reservations can be made by calling Alta Robbins at 578-1524. At this year’s event, the 50 Plus Club is proud to honor the Stanislaus County Farm Bureau. The evening’s entertainment will be provided by “The Sensations” winners of the 2012 Valley’s Got Talent. The Sensations are an all-girl group that enjoys performing hits of yesteryears and those of today.

The 50 Plus Club of Stanislaus County held their first meeting in 1941 at the “Hotel Modesto”. The original members passed a resolution to clarify eligibility of membership that read “All male citizens born in Stanislaus County 50 or more years ago or who have been identified with Stanislaus County since prior to the turn of the Century are eligible for membership in the 50 PLUS CLUB of Stanislaus County.” A local newspaper account of the first meeting read “The president will serve only one meeting but the secretary will be permanent.” At a meeting in 1957 minutes read, “Members voted in favor of having our meeting held on Saturday, October 18, 1958 with the ladies meeting with us, providing suitable accommodations could be obtained.”

Times have most certainly changed. The 50 Plus Club now gathers once a year to socialize and all are encouraged to come early, stay late and visit to reminisce with old and new friends.
