The Foo Fighters Play Everything!

The Foo Fighters Play Everything

by Russ Allsup

The Foo Fighters wrapped up their American tour on Oct. 18th at Castaic Lake for the 32nd annual and final Love Ride, proceeds of which went to the Wounded Warrior Project. This was billed as an extra special show by the Foo Fighters, and it was. As my co-conspirator Dan the Man and I entered the venue, one thing that stood out was the setting. The stage was in the middle of a bunch of mountains and situated right in front of a lake. After a strong opening set by Social Distortion, the Foo Fighters came out and opened with their anthem “Learn To Fly”. What followed was a pure treat for those in attendance.

After around the fourth song, Foo Fighters singer Dave Grohl said he wanted to play a Foos song and then another bands’ song, in that order, for the whole show. So for this show the band played their own songs in addition to songs by Pink Floyd, AC/DC, Tom Petty, the Rolling Stones, the Faces, Queen, and Van Halen. In addition to the two Queen songs they played, on ‘Tie Your Mother Down’ by Queen, they had Ratt’s Bobby Blotzer join them on the drum kit. Personal highlights for me were the AC/DC tune “Let There Be Rock”, and Pink Floyd’s “In The Flesh”. It turned out to be a great day of music for a great cause. Hopefully the Love Ride folks will find a way to make this event happen again next year, as this years event was sold out and a huge success.
