The Weekend Needle Drop 52 Weeks 52 Album The Koffin Kats Drunk in the Daylight
Middagh Goodwin
Drunk in the Daylight is the Koffin Kats(from Detroit, MI.) fourth album and first one with Eric “E Ball” Wall on drums. Along with Vic Victor(Vocals and Upright Bass) and Tommy Koffin(Guitar). Released in 2008 the album showcases what the Kats have become known for high octane adrenaline soaked Rockabilly and with songs about the horrors of dealing with the real world and science fiction and monster movies. You can hear the influence of the Damned, Stray Cats and even the Smiths if you listen closely.
This is the album that set the Koffin Kats on the road to being one of the United States(World) premiere Psychobilly acts. They have toured with Mad Sin, Nekromantix, The Damned and most recently swung through California and the rest of the U.S. supporting Reverend Horton Heat.
After touring on this release Tommy Koffin left the band to lead a “normal life” but the call of the open road could not be ignored. Eight years since recording Drunk in the Daylight, Tommy is back with the Kats with new songs and a tour and an album slated for the end of 2016.
You may have seen them perform at The Blackwater Café, The Plea for Peace Center, The Partisan or even the Brewhouse at Hero’s over the years. This time around you have a chance to see the original touring lineup for the first time ever in The GypsyShack. They will be playing for the first time in Sonora on March 9th with Grease Hound(2015 Rockabilly MAMA Winner) and Johnny Devil and His Sins. Don’t miss this opportunity to see an American Psychobilly Legend in such an intimate environment.
