Trail View

Lace up those hiking shoes and pump up those knobby tires- there’s a lot of great things going on this April in our community. Get outside to enjoy our open spaces like Dry Creek and the Tuolumne River Regional Parks. Haven’t been out there yet?  We invite you to get out and enjoy these two gems right here in our own backyard!

In case you didn’t know, we have a thriving interscholastic mountain bike race team based right here in Modesto, The Modesto Composite Mountain Bike Race Team “The Dust Devils”.  You’ll see them out riding on Wednesdays at Dry Creek and on Saturdays along the Tuolumne Riverside Trail, working on skills and endurance for the upcoming race season. Modesto is going to be one of four race venues for the NORCAL Interscholastic Mountain Bike League’s teams to compete on April 9th and 10th. The race will be held in Gateway Park then utilize the world class trails along the Tuolumne River to make a fast, spectator friendly five-mile course for kids from the bay area to the foothills to compete against each other.  Community volunteers and spectators are encouraged to get involved.  Speaking of trails, Modesto will be the host city for the California Trails and Greenways Conference at the end of April.  Trail and land managers from all over the state will descend on Modesto to participate in professional seminars and workshops, spend time in our downtown eateries and trek along our trails and greenways.

Modesto has been known for a lot of things, but not for being an outdoor recreation destination; however, more and more people are traveling from as far away as Sonora and San Francisco to enjoy our outdoor recreation amenities- yes, it is really happening!  We hope you take some time to get out, explore, and enjoy our fantastic trails, waterways, and outdoor spaces soon- see you out on the trail!
