SongwriterView: Waiting For Our Ship
By Patty Castillo Davis
Hearts and flowers, the ultimate culmination for the Church of the NFL, a groundhog, some dead presidents, letting the good times roll, the Day the Music Died-all worthy of observance this month, this Leap Year, this last time before the thaw.
February ushers out the frigid temps and lull and becomes a harbinger for a sense of revival. ANTICIPATION.
As a Musician, the start of a new year, a new season always creates hype. Songwriters take inventory of their muse and start giving life to their projects.
In these parts, it’s no secret that every Central Valley born and bred musician wants to bring their artistry to the coveted venues in our own backyard. Every now and again an opportunity presents itself and this dream gig materializes. On Saturday, February 8 at 8 pm, one such moment will happen at the Gallo Center For The Arts. Joe Barretta & The Modesto All-Star Band will perform a concert as eclectic as it is supreme. All the folks in the scene know Joe, played music with him or have heard his work in television and film. He is a local boy made good by way of San Francisco by way of Detroit, so his influences are an array of sounds and styles and then he hand-selected a support team, this band of homegrown musicians who are a Who’s Who in the scene for their specific virtuosity. David Rogers-percussion Guru, Patty Castillo Davis a Singer’s Singer of every style, Steve Ashman-a bandleader bassist who has worked with the greats, Tim Allen a keys player with the repertoire of a jukebox and very special guests Gary Nelson and Marlon Yamzon. Stuff like this only happens once in a great while and then it’s gone. Bring your family and friends to hear the best Modesto and much of the region has to offer. For one night only. For ticket info GALLOARTS.ORG or 209-338-2100.
